I thought this post would go hand-in-hand with last week's post! Also, I love spending time with Brady trying out different things.
1. Put down your phone
Your dog{s} really want your undivided attention. That is one of the best ways to show you love them. We already spent so much time on screens, and our dogs really want to play with us. At least dedicate a portion of your day towards spending time with your furry friend.
2. Respect their nature
Dogs were born doing the things they currently do. What with eating dirt, sniffing the ground and wanting to greet other dogs. Discouraging them from doing those things is going against what their kind has been doing for years.
3. Rub their ears
Dog experts have proven the ears of a dog are one of their 3 nerve centres. Hence, when you rub the ears of your dog, a sense of pleasure will run through their entire bodies, which they find extremely relaxing. The same thing happens when you rub their bellies--they love it!
4. Lean in when you talk to them
Leaning into them and then allowing them to lean into you is their comfort spot. Full on body hugs can feel threatening to your dog, no matter how long you've had them. That can lead to them feeling trapped. It's better to simply lean into them and allow them to lean into you. Leaning into your dog shows you trust them.
5. Look into their eyes
According to researchers, you should make eye contact with your dog when snuggling with them. Studies show making eye contact with them when snuggling releases a hormone known as Oxytocin. Oxytocin--a love hormone--literally bonds you with your dog like a mom and baby.
Sorry this was a bit of a short post, I've had a lot of extra schoolwork and stuff, so I haven't had time to add a million different aspects. Luckily, I was going to do this post anyway, and this is less a post to explain things than some fun little tips to bond with your furry friend. Hope you're all having a great week! New post on Monday! See you all then!
